RISED UP IN SOULS

“RISED UP IN SOULS” in a 71-minute Colombian feature film, written, produced and directed by César Pérez Arboleda (El árbol que camina/ The Walking Tree).
Shot in Colombia and Argentina between 2017 and 2020, this independent production, the director’s debut from Antioquia, made its world premiere in February 2021 at the “European Cinema Festival” held in Madrid, Spain, where it won the award for “Best Cinematography” .
“RISED UP IN SOULS”, addresses the issue of “false positives”, police abuse, death of leaders, censorship, corruption, tango, drug trafficking, gang warfare, guerrillas and paramilitaries in the jungles of Colombia, as main themes of the film.

“RISED UP IN SOULS”

In English, tells the story of Julián, a young journalist about to graduate, and his girlfriend Ximena, a tango dancer, who amidst turbulent scenarios of urban warfare in Medellín and armed conflicts in the jungle The border between Colombia and Panama, between guerrillas and paramilitaries, reveals the harsh reality of the country in the 90s and 2000s, where some of the most bloody chapters in the recent history of Colombia were experienced.

Synopsis & trailer

Julián and Ximena, fight to conquer their dreams in the midst of turbulent events of gang wars in the city of Medellín, guerrillas and paramilitaries in the jungles of Colombia. The young documentary filmmaker and Tango dancer try to save their love from the bullets and injustices that surround them, through art, until they become the protagonists of their own dramatic stories without trying. Julián, about to graduate as a journalist, must flee Medellín to save his life. From being the director of a journalistic investigation of a peace process, he becomes the victim and protagonist of a movie life. Ximena dreams of contesting the Tango World Cup in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and for this she must dance with death as the stage, to reach the desired final.
